Manitoba MP encourages provincial businesses to take advantage of tariff cuts

OTTAWA — Federal Trade Minister Jim Carr is urging Manitoba businesses to take advantage of Canada’s leg-up in a trade deal with Asia-Pacific countries.

“There are opportunities we haven’t seen a very long time,” Carr said after presenting to local firms Wednesday at the Delta Hotels Winnipeg.

Dubbed the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the bill drops tariffs on imports and exports with a large swath of the region.

For Manitoba, that means more selling animals, grains and machines at more competitive prices, Carr said.
