“Reflections on International Human Rights Day”

As we mark International Human Rights Day tomorrow, it might feel like we are moving in the wrong direction.

In Winnipeg, calls for action in response to violence against Indigenous women, girls and gender-diverse people continue to grow as we mourn Rebecca Contois, Morgan Beatrice Harris, Marcedes Myran, Buffalo Woman and so many others. In the United States, reproductive rights are being rolled back. In Iran and around the world, women are demanding to live free and equal. Antisemitism and white supremacy are becoming normalized. The effects of climate change are being felt every day.

“Réflexions inspirées par la Journée internationale des droits de la personne ”

Alors que nous soulignons demain la Journée internationale des droits de la personne, nous pouvons avoir l’impression d’aller dans la mauvaise direction.

À Winnipeg, les appels à l’action devant la violence faite aux femmes, aux filles et aux personnes de diverses identités de genre autochtones se multiplient au moment où nous pleurons Rebecca Contois, Morgan Beatrice Harris, Marcedes Myran, Buffalo Woman et combien d’autres. Aux États-Unis, les droits liés à la procréation font un recul. En Iran et ailleurs dans le monde, les femmes réclament de vivre libres, sur un pied d’égalité avec les hommes. L’antisémitisme et la suprématie blanche se répandent. On ressent chaque jour les effets des changements climatiques.
